On Relevancy and Irrelevancy

The Barenaked Ladies song "It's All Been Done" (1998) walks the listener through many of loves tired cliches. In a way, describing these various scenarios, The Barenaked Ladies make the pop song irrelevant. The chorus stating "it's all been done...before" implies there is nothing new to say, no new way to say it.

Nada Surf's new record, Lucky, is an album of pop songs for people who've heard every pop song. Sounding fresh and new, one is completely unaware that the obscene underside of this album is that Nada Surf has in fact done this a number of times before. Lucky makes the Barenaked Ladies song irrelevant.
