On Punk Rock

When The A.V. Club's Noel Murray talks about punk as rock n roll classicism, it's an easy claim to make and a working definition that appears elsewhere.

Frank Kogan improves on the idea by calling punk rock the chasing of the past into the future.

Richard Laermer and Mark Simmons's book Punk Marketing describes a similar situation; the postnineties rupture in advertising that displaced many of the ideals and values of the industry.

But the closer one gets to stablizing meaning, punk keeps voiding its signifier as empty. Isn't this how Ben Stein is able to call Creationism the new punk rock and it work?
